Fall Grab and Run set up

WOW!!

Every year I get nervous before the Grab and Run. I for some reason, I imagine no one coming to help set out the clothing and there being very few clothing to set out. I have no idea why I think this, because every year this community SHOWS UP!! Every year there are tables full of clothing to give out. Every year people show up to help fold clothing pulled out of big black garbage bags. All I can say is WOW and

THANK YOU!

 It's like the loaves and the fishes. The clothing keeps multiplying. Where did all these clothes come from?

More drywall and soffit and facia

 Today, the ceilings were almost done when I arrived in the morning.  Dean was hard at work all afternoon yesterday while I was in the city driving the uncles to the airport.

 Wow, what a different look to have flat, white ceilings.

 The soffit and facia is started on the back of the house!

 So as the soffit installer was working today. He asked if we had ordered screws for the brown soffit. We just had what the lumber store had sent with the other supplies. He showed us what was there, These silver screws. He asked us if that was ok or would we rather have brown coated ones so they wouldn't show. Dean called the lumber store to see if they had brown ones in stock. They did, so off I went to town to get the nice brown screws. I brought the silver ones back and got a $35 credit (who knew screws cost so much??). After I returned them I asked for the brown ones Dean had called about. Well, they didn't have them, never had. So I very annoyingly went over to the other hardware store to see if they had brown screws.
They too said they never carry them. So I threw a hissy fit about having to drive all the way Winkler to get a couple of boxes that are a normal stocked item in Winkler stores.

 So they, not used to seeing me have a hissy fit found a quick solution.....

 They gave me a can of paint. So I went back to the house, and painted 200 screws.

A little bit of white

Today we had a bit of time before the Veraniki pig-out at grandmas to get a bit of white up on the walls.

 Miranda had the day off today because of Thanksgiving.So she came to help.

 Dean makes reaching high up above your head screwing in screws look easy. But believe me, it is NOT. Not only is the screw gun really heavy, you have to get the screws in just the right depth and not crooked. Not any yo ho can be a drywaller (at least not a good drywaller). But Dean lets me help and doesn't even make to many suggestion. Every once in a while though, he takes the screw gun and just gives er to get it done.

 This is the entrance closet and end wall. Finally looking different.

Here  is a sample of the hardwood and ceramic tile for the main floor. We think the hardwood might be a little dark, but we just can't find a lighter one with the right brownish tone. So we might just do it and dust a lot.

Grab & Run

This week is our Church's annual Fall Grab and Run. The Grab and Run is an amazing event where people in our community donate gently used clothing,we put it out on tables and people who could use the clothes come in, sometimes with their whole families and take what they need for free. I am always amazed at the people who come. They are always so gracious to each other. There is never any rushing to to get the best stuff. They just come and hang out and look through the clothes. 

We also have a hot dog BBQ and everyone gets free hot dogs and drinks for supper before they go.

If you live in the area and if you have a moment during this Thanksgiving season and if you possibly have clothing you don't want anymore. Please consider donating it to a really great cause. We need men, ladies and children's clothing. We also have people asking for towels and bedding.

 The Grab and Run  is this Thursday Oct. 14th 4-6:30. Please consider supporting this very worthy cause. There are so many people in our community that could really use some good winter clothing. The clothing can be dropped off at the Exchange (166 main street) or I can come and pick it up. We also need people who would like to donate their time by helping put the clothing out on tables the day before from 4- 7. It's a lot of fun! 

One month

It has officially been one month that we have been living in our 1 bedroom apartment. It has gone better than what I thought it would. We really haven't felt squished here. The biggest issues that I have are the shared laundry facilities and only because I have to make sure that our clothes are finished in the washer/dryer before I leave anywhere so that if someone else needs to do laundry our stuff isn't in their way. The other thing that is hard is trying to be so very quiet. We are above someone and so we are always aware of our noise level. As this apartment is really only made for 1 person we have to be extra diligent in being quiet so we don't wreck it for the great tenant below us.
Other than that and the regular "town" noises that annoy us, things have been great is our cozy home.
We are starting to get really excited about moving into our house. Now that the walls are up and we can see rooms, we are starting to imagine the things we will put into them. We have also started to imagine unpacking all of the things that have been in storage for the last 1 1/2 years. It will be like Christmas when we get to see  and touch everything again.

I am mostly excited to be able to bake and cook again. Right now I have 1 pot, 1 frying pan, a roaster,a small pan and I borrowed a muffin pan the other day from  Cindy so I could at least make some banana muffins. That makes it a bit difficult to do any real baking. We have already had 2 fish meals at the new house and I like it. Even on the coleman stove and with paper plates. It kinda feels like camping, but better.

One more month and we will be so close to being able to move. Can't wait.

Plumbing, electrical and framing done!!

The plumbers finished all the duct work and plumbing rough in today. They did all this work while we did the electrical. It is now ready for inspection !

 After returning all of the first batch of very thin insulation. We can now start getting the house ready to drywall.

 The garage ended up being a bit high. The rafter company had an issue with designing the rafters where they connect to the house. So what we ended up with is this very funky vaulted garage ceiling. Looks a bit fancy for our country home, but will end up being nice for winter basketball games.

 So many little spots need insulation.

 Walt is getting the insulation done so we can start drywalling as soon as it gets inspected.

Mom brought us lunch today!!!! Pizza, greek salad and cheese cake. The best lunch we've had in a long time.

6500 feet of wire, 25 potlights and tones of plugs and such. But we are DONE!! Now for the hard part. This week will will start on the drywall.....
