Our first meal in Japan. What did we eat? I don't know.
The streets in Narita, Japan
The whicker trays are drying some kind of seafood
The temple we vivited
They have squat toilets here too.
Deep fried rice cakes
Sushi bar. Yummy!
We landed in Narita, Japan with only a few days to spend. We didn't have a hotel booked. We were told that is was easy to book a hotel from the airport, and it was. We stayed in the Garden View hotel, just outside of the town of Narita. The lady at the booking office thought we might rater stay in Tokyo because Narita was so quiet and small. Not! We love quiet and small, trees and quiet streets. That is exactly what Narita is like.
The next morning we walked 20 minutes to the Buddhist temple. It was a very nice walk past small gardens in backyards and streams flowing through rice fields. A nice change from the hustle and bustle of Thailand cities.
The temple is set on a hill covered in large trees with paths running all through it and even a small lake in the center. We strolled through the park like setting for hours going from one little building to another. It was a warm sunny day and we had to stop for water many times.
Once we were done with the temple we had to find something to eat. This ended up being more challenging than we had experienced so far in Asia. The restaurant menus were all in Japanese. The funny thing was the restaurants all had plastic food displays along the sidewalk so you could visualize the foods they offered. Plastic noodles and veggie's and meat. Yum yum.
We also went to the mall for some A/C and to see about watching a movie in English. The movie didn't work out, but we did have fun walking around the mall and going for sushi and ice-cream.
All in all, out 21/2 days in Japan were an interesting experience. We got a taste of Japan and would be interested going back someday.
